Safety

Recognizing that our employees are our greatest asset, Broussard Brothers is proud to maintain a state-of-the-art safety program. Eliminating the costly pain and suffering caused by worksite injuries is our primary concern. Therefore, Broussard Brothers regularly meets and exceeds governmental safety regulations, ensuring a safe and productive environment for all employees. Our Safety Department's activities include on-site inspections, field safety meetings, first aid and CPR training, regulatory training and a safety incentive program. The following briefly describes some of Broussard Brothers' continuing safety programs.

Loss Analysis
A Loss Source Analysis examines past accidents in an effort to identify trends in occurrences. This information identifies departments and activities that have a history of repeat injuries. Special programs are then developed and directed toward the prevention or reduction of those recurring incidents.

Fitness For Duty
Our Fitness for Duty Program includes a complex schedule of drug/alcohol testing protocol combined with a thorough post offer evaluation. Pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, random, post accident, and return to duty exemplifies some of the testing being performed at various levels of the company. Background investigations and driving records are conducted on all new hires. Prior to hiring, all personnel undergo a medical physical followed by a post offer evaluation in a real work environment setting. Potential employees must successfully complete the evaluation designed for the job classification to which they will be assigned.

Safety Incentive Program
A Safety Incentive Program has been utilized since 2000 to increase employee awareness regarding safety. Annual awards improve employee attitude toward safety. Various programs reward field personnel as well as supervisors in a positive manner.

On-Site Inspections
The Safety Department makes random unannounced site visits. These visits include surveys which are used as a tool to increase safety awareness as well as to determine regulation compliance at each site. Recommendations resulting from these surveys are discussed immediately with field supervisors. Formal written summaries are provided to Project Managers, Division Heads, and the President. Replacement of safety-related supplies are also made during these visits.

Behavior Based Safety
Our Behavior Based Safety process, or as we call it "Take 5" adds to our safety effort by getting employees to take time out for safety observations. Employees are asked to take five minutes to stop work and observe the work environment for potential hazards or unsafe behavior. If a hazard or unsafe behavior exist, the employee will stop work and remedy the hazard or unsafe behavior.

Stop Work Authority
Stop work authority is a power given to all employees, from the newest hire to the top Supervisor. We strongly believe that by giving our employees the authority to stop any job if an unsafe condition exist, encourages them to participate more aggressively in the safety program.
